brunch in bloom: five menus for spring

Brunch may just be my all-time favorite meal. It offers a perfect excuse for us to linger at the table, enjoy a bubbly drink, and fill our plates with an array of delicious foods from any course or category. Appetizers, breakfast, dinner, dessert — everything is fair game on a brunch menu!

Year after year as Spring rolls around, however, brunch menus everywhere seem to get trapped in a time loop of ham, deviled eggs, hot cross buns, crêpes, and if you’re very lucky, Aunt Myrtle’s infamously dry carrot cake (which can only be rescued with the addition of an excessive layer of cream cheese frosting!)

Of course, there’s nothing inherently wrong with these dishes; they’re great! (Well, as long as you swap out the dry carrot cake for something like my caterpillar cake instead!)

And there’s certainly room for tradition and ritual in the way we celebrate with food, but this is Spring! It’s not about repetition, familiarity, or even comfort; Spring is about renewal! It’s a season of possibilities, where change is within reach. So why not let our tables bloom with fresh new flavors and celebrate our amazing capacity to grow — and grow better — with our friends and loved ones this year?

With this in mind, I offer you five mix-and-match-able Spring menus to start the new season out with a fresh, new vision for your gatherings. Shake off the old routines, and be open to change — in your kitchen and in your life. And remember: how we embrace change — whether we welcome it with curiosity and optimism or resist it out of habit and hopelessness — will shape not only our experience of it, but also the direction it takes us in the days ahead.

This year, instead of leaning into the same old holiday checklist, try making room for something new. Join us for a different kind of Spring brunch: one that celebrates renewal, fresh starts, and the joy of the unexpected.
